Fancy Furball Fascinates

Today is all about one of my seven rescued cats, Furball. Furball is unusual because he's the only kitty in the litter with very long hair, and with unusual coloring. He is also unusual because he doesn't act like the other kittens.

Can I have some meat if I
give you my adorable look?
Once in awhile, he'll come out and play with the other kitties, but he usually does his own thing. He's usually hiding out or sleeping while the others are playing, and out playing while the others are resting. Even when he goes outside with the others, he prefers doing his own thing.

Taming him was also a strange experience. He used to be one of the most fearful cats. He would run away when anyone even came near him. I would wait by the food bowls and try to pet them when they walked up. Furball would just run away.

Sleepy-bye baby
But then, one day, I was able to pet him a little bit when he wasn't looking. He seemed to think this was the strangest sensation imaginable. He began playing with my fingers, trying to hook them with his claws. But when I got my hand on him, he would twist and squirm while staring at my hand the entire time.

And then he wanted more. He would stuff his face under my hand and walk, all the while squirming and staring. It was difficult to hold in my laughter when he did this. It's as if he was studying this odd petting sensation. He still does it too!

He is still an enigma. Sometimes he will run away. Sometimes he will do his little self-petting while squirming. Sometimes he wants to cuddle. Oh yeah, he loves to cuddle now. When I pick him up, he just luxuriates in my arms, leaning into my nails as I scratch behind his ears, and looking up at me with those big pretty eyes. He loves when we touch noses too.

Please excuse me as I share tons of photos of this beautiful creature. I also made this little LOLCat that pokes fun at my dancing ability:

Moving toward the all-knowing EYE

"Is that my nemesis, Lulu the dog?"

I know this one is a bit blurry, but it looked so artistic to me.
He almost looks like a painting there.

This was soon after being neutered.
Imagine in the left picture he's thinking:
"You took the only testicle I had, and another I never knew I had?! I hate you."
On the right, he's thinking:
"Oh well, at least I have this cushy bed where I can rest."

Look at that beautiful fat tail!!

  1. I love your cat posts, being a massive cat person myself. Furball is gorgeous, he reminds me of our old family cat gizmo. Your photos of him are great. It's strange how each cat has a different persona, some friendly wanting lots of cuddles, others more independent. They are an extension of the family. Our cat Minnie, is a proper softy!

  3. The cutest thing Kristen! O my Furball is also very fotogenic! I love my two gingers as well and have photos of them on my cell phone and computer so I can check them out when I'm away. I so wish they knew how to use the phone so I could talk to them.
Thank you for this post - I am smiling!

  5. I love all animals. I've never had a cat because my daughter is allergic to dogs and cats so when she was little we started out with fish then went to hamsters, gerbils and now I have rats.

We would have had cats and a dog if she could have been around them as a kid. Your cats are so cute. Loved the pictures.

  6. Funny, independent-minded animal. So like a cat.

Give me a dog any day, or even better, a wolf!

    1. I've always considered myself a dog person, but I couldn't let these sweet creatures go hungry. And then I grew to love them. I'm lucky to have them.

    2. I understand that. Though I am not a cat lover (they kill so many songbirds), I honour anyone who rescues and cares for any creature!

    3. Thank you. Fortunately, they can't seem to catch any birds around here. I think it's the types of trees we have. I'm not sure. I don't think they've ever caught a single one, and I hear them singing all day. :)

  7. That is a darling story. You sure do share with us their personalities. He seemed initially like he might have Asberger's syndrome, no? It's great that he's opening up.

    1. I don't know. I'm not really familiar with cat illnesses. They've all seemed so healthy so far. He seems fine, but just a bit of an oddball. :)

  8. What a beautiful cat! I miss having a pet. If it's only allowed where we rent right now, I would have a cat, too.

  9. He is a gorgeous cat! I had to re-socialize a cat that had been abused. Your description of him while being petted made me laugh. Too cute!

    1. Aren't they unique? I've seen similar markings on other cats, but Furball has that gradation from gray to tan on his nose, and that beautiful off-white, slightly tan color around his neck. But then, I'm biased. :)

    1. I had never actually heard of that until I posted a picture on Instagram, and someone asked whether he was a "Mainecoon." I still don't know much about cats, other than what I've come to know about these little ones. Thanks for stopping by!

  15. I like to see pictures of cats. I think they are beautiful. I don't like cats and me in one room, though. If it is from afar, in pictures or in movies, then they're great.
