How to Put the Google Friend Connect Gadget on a New Blog (UPDATED)

When I originally wrote this tutorial, I couldn't find the Google Friend Connect gadget anywhere in the Add Gadget list, even when I looked on the More gadgets list. Well, it must have been missing temporarily, because it's in the list now all of a sudden. Someone directed me to this link, detailing where it is: http://www.stramaxon.com/2013/01/gfc-follower-gadget-back.html

When you look at the More gadgets list, the "Followers" gadget is near the bottom on the front page. If you search for it, it won't show in the results. This is probably why I couldn't find it before, because it must have gone to another page. I had looked through about four pages and couldn't find it. If that happens to you, just keep looking. It's in there somewhere.

    1. I'm a web developer/computer engineer, so don't feel bad. This isn't stuff that any blogger would know or figure out, and it's definitely not for the faint of heart! :) Thanks for taking the time to comment.

    1. Thank you. I know there aren't many people in my position of having a brand new blog, and being in a blog hop. One of the blog hoppers told me I should have the gadget because it made things easier for the other blog hoppers. Little did I know, it would take some figuring out. But I thought, I did the work, so I may as well let others know how I did it in case they're ever in my position.

    1. Aww, thanks! I promise I didn't do it just to get followers, haha! A blog hopper requested I have one, so once I figured it out, I decided I may as well share what I learned in case anyone else is ever in my position. :)

    1. Following your friends' blogs is different than what this tutorial talks about, which is all about adding the gadget that will allow your friends to add your blog to their reading list. If you want to add a friend to your reading list, you need to click the "Join this site" button on their blog.

If they don't have that button, just go to the Blogger main page while signed in (blogger.com), and go down the page until you find the section titled "Reading List." Click on the "Add" button, and paste the link to your friend's blog. That works the same as clicking "Join this site," even when it's not another blogger blog. It works almost every time.

  27. Hi,
Hoping you can help me out. I followed your instructions however when I try to add the gadget it won't let me save. I get an error message saying "please correct errors in this form." Any ideas? I've had the gadget before and removed and now can't get it back. I've kept all the custumization as is, so I'm not sure where the error message is coming from. Would love to hear your thoughts if you have time!

    Thanks!

I have just joined your blog using the " join the site " option and it was a success, however I have just created a blog and the tool is not working for me. It says " try again later" and this has been the case for a week. Do you have tips on what the issue might be? Thank you

2nd. Members (Similar to 3rd but when click Join this site shows error)
    3rd. Followers (Working)
