'Person of Interest' 3x23 'Deus Ex Machina' Gif-Tweet-Cap: Everything Changes

The following gifs are available on this Tumblr post. "Deus Ex Machina" is the Season 3 finale of Person of Interest, and almost too epic to watch. Almost. It is possible to watch it without falling off your seat as long as you have some sort of seat belt. Otherwise, you may have a few injuries in the morning. I also recommend that, if you have not yet seen the episode, that you watch it in the early evening so you will be able to sleep. Sleep is still not guaranteed, however.
The city is still dark after Vigilance turned out the lights in New York in the previous episode. A few more Decima guys show up at the spot where Finch (Michael Emerson) had been held earlier, but Reese (James Caviezel) and Shaw (Sarah Shahi) take out a few kneecaps. Then, Hersh (Boris McGiver) finishes them off, reminding the others that Decima guys have a bad habit of killing themselves anyway.
Collier (Leslie Odom Jr.) informs his kangaroo court that the "trial" is being televised all over the world. Not sure how that works in New York with the lights out, but whatever. Collier calls one of his five accused to the stand: "Manuel Rivera" (Joseph Melendez). Then he shoots the guy for lying and getting out of line about the validity of the fake proceedings.
Meanwhile, Reese, Shaw and Hersh watch some of the trial on the TV that seems to have been left behind just for them, and they try to find the location by using photos of the courthouse. Shaw is antsy to leave when she realizes that Root (Amy Acker) may be in danger, so Hersh commandeers a bicycle by shooting at the poor rider.
Throughout the episode, we are treated to some new Collier 2010 flashbacks, detailing how Collier became a part of Vigilance. It all began with mysterious texts and an abduction. Once abducted, he was told to call himself Peter Collier, and to fight against government surveillance under the brand name Vigilance. After what happened to his brother, he was happy to do it.
Back in the courthouse, Collier wants to know who is most responsible for Northern Lights, and Control (Camryn Manheim) stands up to protect him. Yeah, she's basically a BAMF, and holds her own as always against foolish people. Next on the stand is Senator Garrison (John Doman).
Root had told everyone, including Fusco (Kevin Chapman), to meet up at a certain spot in town. Reese casually brings up the Machine, and how Vigilance is causing a diversion to take focus away from the courthouse, leaving Fusco baffled. It seems that everyone forgot that Fusco isn't part of the "in the know" part of Team Machine.
Shaw soon arrives to rescue Root at the official headquarters of Team Samaritan (as in, where the actual Samaritan servers are located). Root seems quite appreciative. I'm not a "shipper" of any kind, but I do love their unique "professional" relationship.
Back at Kangaroo Court, the senator gives up Control, as in, "Control started it! Where's my mommy! Waaahhhhh!!!" Control, being the big girl she is, refuses to say a word. She may have an evil side, but at least she knows about loyalty. She would die first, which is exactly what Collier has in store for her. And Greer (John Nolan) seems to be having a blast. Looks as if he's about to pull out his secret stash of popcorn.
#PersonOfInterest @POIWritersRoom is it just me or does Greer look like he's having fun?!

Root steals a couple of embedded RFID chips off the men they knock out, and use them to enter the building, where Root will be installing the seven servers she stole. Shaw has a bit of trouble with hers.
Meanwhile Reese and Hersh pull out the easiest trick in the book on one of the Vigilance troublemakers (Ari Butler) by donning their masks and telling him he's supposed to be somewhere else because "the courthouse is over here!" "Smart dude" says, "Nah, it's over here." Hey, would you like a side of brains with your concussion, guy?
Before Collier can kill Control, Finch stands up and confesses to being really good with computers... and to building Northern Lights, aka The Machine. He tells the whole story of the Machine on the promise that nobody else be horribly murdered.
OK, so it's lights out Finch after his story... until Decima arrives, that is. They wipe out everyone they can, allowing Control and the senator to escape. Greer stands and takes his place as their leader, ordering two more killings before they leave.
Meanwhile, Hersh attempts to stop a nearby bomb from going off, taking multiple shots and fighting off Decima guys as if he's invincible. He's not though, as we are made painfully aware when the bomb goes off, killing him.
Before killing Collier, Greer casually informs him that he was behind all those texts years before, and that he created him to be a "devil" so that his version of god (Samaritan) could rise. It's a heartbreaking moment. Why twist the knife before killing the poor guy? Just to be even more evil? Seeing as how Greer is the actual "devil" in this situation, that is likely.
Before killing Finch, Reese shows up to save the day. Unfortunately, Greer still gets away. Of course, he pins the bombing on Vigilance, convincing Control and Garrison to go forward with Samaritan immediately. Samaritan's first job is to kill the rest of Vigilance... which Greer created, meaning that he created them for the purpose of having lots of criminals to kill to make Samaritan look like the Holy Grail. Samaritan's second job? To become Greer's god, by giving him orders!
But what about the seven servers that Root stole, tweaked, then installed back into Samaritan? It turns out that they are not capable of shutting down Samaritan, but merely of allowing Team Machine to survive. Their hopes of stopping the new God Machine died when they failed to kill the senators. Each of the seven servers has one simple job: to cause each of seven people to be assessed as non-threats. Those seven include Root, Shaw, Reese, Finch, and Root's three techie groupies. Unfortunately, the Library is not on the safe list.
The wait for next season is going to be long and arduous!

'Person of Interest' 3x22 'A House Divided' Gif-Tweet-Cap: FIIIIIIIIIIINCH!!!!!!

The following gifs are also available on this Tumblr post. "A House Divided" continues from last week's Person of Interest, with Finch (Michael Emerson) having been abducted by Decima. The action and intrigue is almost to the point of jumping the shark, but viewers are still barely on their seats. We haven't fallen out of our chairs... yet.

Throughout the episode, we see flashbacks of Collier (Leslie Odom Jr.) that explain why he's such a nutball. He enjoys time with his friendly brother, until the brother is arrested by the NSA, giving no answers because of some "national security exception" idiocy.
In the present, a Decima goon jumps to his death rather than answer a few of Reese's (James Caviezel) questions. Root (Amy Acker) walks up and says that they do it for insurance... the families of these goons get generous paydays when they off themselves. Reese wants to keep working to save Finch, but Root says he's not in immediate danger.
Meanwhile, Greer (John Nolan) is being his usual arrogant self, trying to convince Finch that Samaritan is better because the world needs "structure."
Root does some of her magic, stealing keys off a dead guy to get into his car because that's what the Machine wants.
Then, she reveals her very own "nerd herd," and the fact they've been collecting "contraband":
She gives everyone their orders, basically taking Finch's place in a very real-time, fast-paced way.
Greer the tries to convince Senator Garrison (John Doman) that he should buy information from Samaritan without owning the system. He is completely befuddled as to why he should allow Decima to keep Samaritan, and Greer says it's all for "plausible deniability," which is something every politician loves to hear. Decima takes the blame when the wrong person is put in prison for years or dies because of Samaritan.
The Machine spits out five numbers, with Control (Camryn Manheim) being the first. Root sends Shaw (Sarah Shahi) to go protect her old boss, even though she would much rather kill her (painfully). She breaks into a room where she'll be able to listen in on Control, mowing down a couple of surprise secret service agents (without killing them, of course).
Reese and Root hang out in a coffee shop, with Reese confused as to why the Machine wants them to "drink bad coffee" with "unemployed college grads."

Shaw's "itchy trigger finger" gets a nervous twitch as she listens to the senator convince Control to go all in with Samaritan, which would turn the country into "1984."
Meanwhile, Greer wonders why Finch injured his "son," aka the Machine. Like Root with the Machine, he doesn't want to control Samaritan, but to set it free. But isn't he the guy who wants to sell the info to the Feds, and use it for his own benefit? Wouldn't the idea of being like a god skew his view just a tad?
Control is all in favor of Samaritan, and works to convince another politician to jump on board by explaining how his son's life was mostly likely saved because of the Machine, and Samaritan is the new and improved upgrade.
Root and Reese question a guy at the coffee shop, but he goes all machine-gunny on them until Reese handles him. He's Vigilance, and Collier is about to crash Control's party!
Then we have another flashback, where we learn that Collier's brother has killed himself in prison, only to learn that the brother had rehabilitated a terrorist. He wasn't plotting destruction as the NSA had believed when they saw the brother hanging out with the known terrorist on surveillance. Collier had let his feelings be known to some Fed lady, who seems to think that only the guilty kill themselves. No wonder she feels that way: she looks like an utterly miserable person:
Root convinces Shaw that she needs to save Control rather than murder her horribly, but Vigilance grabs her first. Then they manage to shut off all the power in New York. Worse yet, cell tower back-up power is very low. They need some satellite phones!
As Greer goes on about how he wants Samaritan to "lead" them as a god (or at least as a mechanical president, of sorts), Vigilance shows up and abducts them all. Collier is especially happy to see Finch there. What a nice surprise!
Hersh (Boris McGiver) shows up, and Reese and Shaw decide to join forces with him to help find and save Finch (and his Fed friends as well, of course).
Root gives her nerds fake identities, and sends them off, despite the fact that they want to stay with her out of loyalty. Her plan is to shut down Samaritan, right at the anti-Machine's headquarters.
Reese, Shaw, and Hersh then watch a TV screen from the room where Greer had been holding Finch, as Vigilance reveal the faces of all of the "accused" in Collier's very own kangaroo court.
Collier has the heads of all of the "accused" in his little kangaroo court.

'Person of Interest' 3x21 'Beta' Gif-Tweet-Cap: Not a Good Samaritan!

I've also loaded the following gifs onto this Tumblr post. Samaritan went online in the last episode of Person of Interest, and it is now ready for its first "Beta" test. The goal of the test? Find Harold Finch! Well, and also to catch some terrorists, but of course terrorists are only a secondary goal for the evil Greer.

Shaw and Reese seem completely unaware at the moment, tracking irrelevants even as Finch has been out of touch. Shaw's first job of the episode turns into two. The first is to convince a poor papa to just take some diapers and leave his empty gun on the floor rather than continuing with his convenience store hold-up.
Her second is to beat up the real threat of the store: the stock boy who turned off the security cameras and has a gun.
As Reese and Shaw leave the store, Root pulls Shaw aside (literally) for a little chat.

The Machine has told Root about Samaritan being online for its beta test, and they need to stay out of sight of cameras and Decima henchmen. Reese temporarily refuses when he gets a pay-phone call from the Machine, until the Machine let's Root in on it: Finch's former fiancée Grace is in trouble!
A Decima bad guy tricks Grace into thinking he's there to take her to the airport for a flight to Italy. She is an artist with a potential job there. Instead, he attempts to knock her out with a drug cocktail. The dynamic duo of Reese and Shaw save the day with a little one-two knockout.
They take Grace to Fusco's police precinct, but there are cameras everywhere in there, and Grace doesn't understand what's happening. Decima sends in a "Fed" to take her away, but Fusco sends him into a room to get beat up by Reese. Then Grace attempts to leave, and Root has to convince her that they're trying to help her with some crazy-talk.
Finally, Root instructs Fusco on bringing her the tools she needs to knock all the precinct cameras offline so they can escape the city. Unfortunately, that's not enough. Their car gets sideswiped by a semi because those realistic car crash scenes have become so popular -- and it gets me every time (the first one I remember was on the show Alias, although I don't know where it originated).
They take Grace, and Greer begins questioning her about Harold. She begins answering until he hints that he was lying to her. At that point, she has had enough of his creepiness, and does her best "Eww Jazz Hands" dance.
Meanwhile, Reese, Shaw and Root do their research from outside the city. They grab a ride concealed in a truck to where they believe Grace is being held. She's not there, but Samaritan's state of the art servers are there. They do find a tablet that the Machine uses to find Grace' true location. Reese and Shaw take off, while Root stays behind with the servers.
Reese and Shaw make the mistake of paying someone to drive their car on the other side of town as a diversion. When Decima stops the car, Greer immediately realizes that his location has been compromised, so he takes Grace to a new location before Shaw and Reese arrive in the trunk of a cab. Then he projects his giant creepy face on the wall to tell Virgil, the one poor geek he left behind, to off himself. He also insists that they trade Finch for Grace, or Grace dies.
Finch shows up regardless of the fact that Reese wants to help Grace escape without him. He insists on making the exchange, and asks Reese and Shaw to "kill them all" if they hurt Grace. At least Greer keeps Grace blindfolded so she can't see that Finch is still alive.
Before the exchange, Finch had seen to it that Grace got the job she wanted in Italy, so she can move away and out of further danger.
After getting his hands on Finch, Greer uses Samaritan to help law enforcement nab a terrorist. That makes the senator happy, and ready to go forward with it. For now, however, the beta test is over, and Samaritan is offline. So how will the gang fight this? Well, Root steals seven of Samaritan's servers, which she will no doubt use to even the score. It's not over!
