Today's prompt is: "If you couldn't answer with your job, how would you answer the question, 'what do you do'?" Well, my job used to be web development and IT until I quit to write articles full time. Part of me still sees writing as a hobby until I remind myself that it's my only job right now.
So with that, I play with my cats and my dog. That's the main thing I do when I'm not writing. I rescued seven cats (a mama and her six kittens), and I take care of my nearly 8 year old dog. When I can find some extra time, I also build things. It doesn't matter what it is. I like wood, metal, glass, and everything else.
What else? I like to write in my blog. The blog part of writing is not my job, so yeah, I do my blog too. There are also lots of other little things, but I'll leave it at that since I don't have a lot of time. Gotta get back to writing those articles!
Well I quit my job as a biochemist to write full time and be a stay at home mom so technically I think those would qualify as a job. So what do I do besides that and taking care of a menagerie of pets - I paint and I draw. I don't sell my paintings anymore I do it because I love to create art
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you've been able to do what you love as well. I'd love to see your art!
DeleteMy blog is a hobby to me. Wow! Seven cats. you are a brave soul
ReplyDeleteHaha... I don't actually feel like it's all that difficult. They are all outdoor cats, and I have a very big yard. They are well behaved. I just give them some love, and fill their bellies. :)
DeleteI have one cat and one dog, and just wrote on Facebook today that since I have one of each, I now MUCH better understand the dynamics of the relationship between Garfield and Odie :).
ReplyDeleteHaha! I love that cartoon too! I read it every single day. :)
DeleteI have 4 rats that take up a good amount of my time. They are what gives me inspiration to write the articles I write.

With good reason, because they are such cuties. :)
DeleteIf I did not have to work, I might spend all of my time reading and writing :)
ReplyDeleteThat is one of my favorite things to do! :)
DeleteHi, found you via Rob-Bear's blog. I just returned to blogging, couldn't even access my old one it had been so long... It's something I missed, but time-consuming to get going again. Good luck with every day in May!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've checked out your blog and followed. I like it!
DeletePlaying with all your cats and dogs is probably a full time job! Have fun writing all those articles :)
ReplyDeleteIt's fun though, so I don't really think of it as a job. Thanks! :)
DeleteThat's a whole lot of animals...I can only manage one feline! It's nice that you rescued those kitties :)
ReplyDeleteHow are you able to write full-time? I've been trying to figure out the science to doing that myself, for a few years now, and it's only worked for a few months here and there before things get haywire and I have to resort to eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a week. It's a crazy world -- freelancin' -- I'm curious to know how you're able to make it work.

Most of what I make is through Yahoo TV and CrowdSource on MTurk. My highest paying articles are for nine different beats on Yahoo. Three of them are weekly, four are every week the shows I review come on (those are Yahoo TV), one is three times a week, and another is twice a month (those are for Yahoo Voices, which pays the most for views). I get paid upfront, plus on views. If you can write about a subject they need, you can ask for beats, but you have to prove yourself with a few self-published articles. Once they publish some, you can ask for assignments.
DeleteI like this philosophy as the 'what do you do' question is often used to categorise people or make assumptions about them. Your May musings are enjoyable and thought-provoking - a good mix! Congratulations on the blog blitz and obviously don't stress about responding to comments. We understand!
ReplyDeleteThank you much for stopping by!
DeleteThank you so much! I'll try to get to it as soon as I can (I'm hoping by next weekend).
