'Person of Interest' 4x1 'Panopticon,' 4x2 'Nautilus' Gif-Tweet-Cap: That Sneaky Machine!

"Panopticon" is the Season 4 premiere of "Person of Interest," and "Nautilus" is the second episode of the season, both of which are gif-tweet-capped right here on a single page. I've made the following gifs available on this Tumblr post.

I had been wondering how on earth the gang was going to get out of their predicament at the end of Season 3, having lost to Samaritan. The Machine's workaround is very creative. While the premiere involves a plot with Elias and a number who needs to be saved, it's really all about getting the characters into their new roles, and providing them with an easier way to work with the Machine under Samaritan's nose.

First, we learn all the new fake jobs the Machine has given each of our heroes. Shaw's, as a department store makeup lady, is the most entertaining. Below, Shaw misfires her perfume bottle. I thought she had good aim? Perhaps her fake dead-end job has caused her to lose all hope, therefore impeding her skills. But it's probably just for the purpose of having another funny Shaw scene:
Reese does his thing on the bad guys. No other explanation would normally be necessary. In this case, he's doing all this in his new job as a narcotics detective rather than as savior for the Machine.
Later, Reese does his thing again, this time from the side of a moving vehicle.
Finch, meanwhile, is a professor with almost no students wanting to take his class. He and Reese have switched places, in a sense, with Reese wanting to continue taking numbers and working for the Machine, and Finch no longer wanting any part of it.

Root is the only one who appears to have kept her old job as working for the Machine. She is probably, from Samaritan's perspective, someone who job hops every few weeks.

Isn't it weird to see Reese having a good excuse to be looking suspicious, and for the cops to not be dirty, trying to take him out?

By the time we reach the end of the episode, Reese has been promoted to homicide, to work alongside Fusco. Reese clearly reacts to the realization that his new job resides at Carter's old desk.
In addition, Shaw gets promoted to "driver"... for a gang of thieves.
Earlier in the episode, Finch receives a corrected dissertation, clearly written by the Machine, with typos pointed out by someone who has no clue that those typos contain a message. It's probably the most clever thing the Machine has done so far, and leads Finch to a new hideout in a subway tunnel.
Meanwhile, the outcome of the case involving the number from the Machine leads to a hidden phone network. The gang now has everything it needs to continue working for the Machine.

In the second episode of Season 4, "Nautilus," Reese jumps in head first on a case given to him by the Machine, while Finch is still more than hesitant to be involved, despite having all the tools he needs. The number is a woman named Claire, who seems to believe she is playing some sort of game.
Reese tricks Finch into wanting to get involved by sending him to a cafe where she happens to be sitting a few seats over. The details reveal that she is a mega-genius. How can Finch refuse helping a fellow smarty-pants?

Unfortunately, Claire would rather play the "game" on her own, believing Finch is cheating off all her hard work in deciphering all the codes that only a genius could understand. Oh, if only she knew! She shoots out the back window of a car, blaming Finch for the action (as if he were capable of such an act of violence). Luckily, Reese is there to arrest Finch before he gets the crap beat out of him.
Claire continues with her game, this time trailed by Reese. He saves her as she stands in the middle of the road staring at some signs, completely unaware that she's about to be dead.
Later, Finch realizes that Samaritan created Claire's game when it hacks his system, so he throws out his compromised laptop. It knows where they are, so they must quickly "DRIVE!!!"
Even though Reese knows he could be in grave danger with Samaritan involved, he just can't help saving the lost young Woman. She has gained quite a following of people who want to kill her, having been involved with Samaritan's game of secret codes. Reese is OK with that, nonchalantly taking out each stalker, without her even realizing that anyone was following her in the first place. For a genius, she sure is oblivious to what's going on around her. She must live inside her own head.
Finch gets some help from Root, who believes that Samaritan must be recruiting Claire (just as the Machine recruited Root). Oh, and she just happens to be posing as a flight attendant, with a pilot named Larry locked in the trunk.
When Claire reaches the final few clues in Samaritan's game, Finch makes a final attempt to save her from blindly following a bad Samaritan, that will never care about her. She refuses his help, clearly needing some bigger purpose in her life.
At the end, three of the bad guys have followed Claire to the final step in the game. Suddenly, the three men are taken out by a sniper. Presumably, Samaritan sent the sniper a PM about making lots of shady money to do the job. I wonder if Samaritan has ever posed as a Nigerian prince. Anyway, she wins the "game." Her prize is a brand new Samaritan Phone, with a lifetime contract. Yep, Samaritan has recruited its own Root!

'Teen Wolf' 4x1 'The Dark Moon' Gif-Tweet-Cap: Werecreatures Everywhere!

The following gifs are also available on this Tumblr post. "The Dark Moon" kicks off the Season 4 premiere of Teen Wolf, yay!
The episode starts with Lydia and Stiles together... in Mexico? They both seem to feel that they are in over their heads, but continue on anyway. They show some sort of card to gain access into a creepy guarded building, where they find... a dance club!
They are actually there to meet with the Calaveras boss-lady, Araya Calavera. In the Season 3 finale, she had sent her men to shoot Derek and force him to tell them where Kate is. Of course, Derek didn't even know Kate was alive until she showed up to abduct him a few minutes later.
In a flashback during the premiere, we learn that Scott found the Calaveras-imprinted bullets used to shoot Derek, so the gang took off for Mexico to go find him.

Lydia and Stiles find Araya at the back of the club, and offer her money to tell them where Derek is located. Meanwhile, Malia, Kira and Scott are all hiding out in the club by blending in.
Kira is a little... er... uncoordinated. That is, until Malia pulls her in for a little lesbian-infused dancing. As far as we know, both girls are straight, which means that showing their boobs bouncing together to the music is purely for the purpose of turning on guys and lesbians, since most of the viewership seems to skew straight female.
Araya refuses to accept the money-for-details offer, and orders her people to attack. Kira whips out some girly glow stick pink nunchucks so she can whip some ass. Malia and Scott prefer their fists.
Araya still manages to win the fight by gassing Scott and Kira with a little Wolfsbane. Then she forces Kira to torture Scott with electrocution until he realizes that Kate Argent is the culprit who took Derek. Who knew that pain makes Scott psychic? Turns out Araya already knew, and was just testing Scott to see what kind of werewolf he is... as in, one who has never killed an innocent or turned anyone.
Araya sends the team off with a guide -- Braeden -- to help them find Derek, who appears to be trapped underground in a coffin, molting. While in the jeep, Scott explains how the Calaveras stole Kate's body, then left her with a knife so she could commit suicide rather than turn into a werewolf. Instead, she killed six of Araya's men and escaped. Just as Scott finishes the story, Stiles' jeep breaks down! Scott goes with Braeden on her motorcycle, while Stiles promises to fix his jeep and be along soon.
After Scott leaves, Malia finds a bone knife stuck somewhere under the hood, revealing that the jeep has been sabotaged -- oh, and someone is watching them. Malia bolts to go find out who's watching, and ends up getting badly scratched in the side. Fortunately, Stiles gets the jeep fixed before anymore mayhem can occur, and they take off. Along the way, we learn that Malia has a crush on Stiles (she also kissed him earlier to beef up her powers so she could listen in on Scott's torture), and Lydia seems more than a little jealous.
Scott and Braeden decide to take a stroll under a church where were-jaguars used to (and perhaps still) live. It's filled with cobwebs to make it look creepy, but they're actually proof of disuse. It's a big surprise, then, when they find that a nasty looking creature that looks like a literal butt-faced Predator is sneaking behind them. According to Malia, it smells like death (assuming she came in contact with the same, or a similar, creature). Maybe it just smells like shit.
The thing begins to make a run at them, so Scott does his biggest wolfy-roar, scaring "everything," as Braeden says, and part of the cave collapses on the creature.
Then, they find the seal of the jaguar god on the wall, which somehow means they've found Derek, so Scott punches through it. Derek is hiding out inside, but he's not what you'd expect: he's just a kid. Yep, Kate managed to turn him into a youngster, which is great for all the young teens watching, but not so great for us older folk (20 and up) who prefer the Hoechlin-look. Ah well, let's just hope he grows up quickly!

'Grimm' 3x21 'The Inheritance' Gif-Tweet-Cap: Grimms and Keys and Verrat, Oh My!

The following gifs are available on this Tumblr post. "The Inheritance" continues from the very end of last week's Grimm, where we got a glimpse of some old dying guy holding one of the three precious keys required to open some important and hidden treasure that the royals could use to destroy the world if they ever got their hands on it.

The episode begins with a lovely family dinner, and Monroe-Rosalee wedding talk. Then Trubel (Jacqueline Toboni) joins in. And she realllllly likes spaghetti. Nick (David Giuntoli) seems a bit embarrassed.
She also explains how she found out she was a Grimm: someone tried to rape her, he turned into a Wesen, called her a Grimm (which was the first time she had heard the term), and she stabbed him with a screwdriver (without killing him). It's the usual cheery dinner-talk for this show.
The old man, herein known as Grandpa Grimm (Sam Anderson), has a son named Josh (Lucas Near-Verbrugghe). Now, many fans find Josh to be highly annoying, but I personally find him to be one of the most hilarious characters I've ever seen on the show. In fact, my entire family was nearly rolling on the floor with laughter each time he said anything, or merely gave one of his freaked-out facial expressions. I love that guy. I hope he sticks around a little longer, and that when they off him, it's in an appropriate Grimm-ly humorous fashion.

Having said that, Grandpa Grimm wants to pass on all of his possessions to Nick, although they have never met. Josh spies on the dinner, then calls Nick to make sure "he's the guy," but has a really hard time believing in any of this Grimm stuff. His disbelief also makes him careless, and one of former FBI Agent Weston's (C. Thomas Howell) goons follow him, forcing Grandpa Grimm to kill him with a big sword when he attacks them. Here is a classic example of Josh being utterly and hilariously freaked out:
Josh wants to call the cops, believing his dad has just murdered some regular guy who was attacking them for no reason (which is completely irrationally hilarious).
Meanwhile, Adalind continues seducing Renard (Sasha Roiz) in her attempt to take Nick's powers. He even insultingly compliments her by saying he'd be in love with her if he didn't know her so well. He can't be falling for the seduction though, can he? Who cares, he's nekkid:
Weston sees that his goon is dead, and is exceedingly furious about his continued failure as a terrifying villain. Grandpa Grimm and Josh have already taken off, and pull off the road to stay in an old warehouse where they won't be found. Grandpa Grimm refuses to get medical attention until he speaks with Nick, while Josh whines.
He tells his son to show Nick one of his Grimm-diary Wesen drawings to prove that he should come talk to him. Josh is just exasperated with all these things he doesn't understand, but finally agrees to get it over with so that he can finally get some medical attention for his papa.
Over in the perfect world of Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner), Rosalee is freaking out, worried that something horrible will happen at their wedding. Unfortunately, that's probably true. Let's just hope that they get to live happily ever after (minus Grimm-interruptions, uninvited houseguests and saving lives) once their wedding problems are over.
Renard siccs some Wu-surveillance on Adalind until she takes a cab. Then he just has Wu (Reggie Lee) call the cab company to find it's destination, and takes over from there.
While Nick and Hank (Russell Hornsby) speak with Renard about their favorite former-FBI buddy (sarcasm) following around an old man and his son and big trunk of treasure at the hotel (guess who they’re talking about), Josh shows up at Nick's doorstep. Trubel answers, and immediately calls Nick after seeing the drawing. When he doesn't answer, she decides to go with Josh in Nick's place, worried about the fact that Josh seems completely clueless to the danger he's in.
While everyone is out, Adalind breaks into Nick's house, stealing Juliette's (Bitsie Tulloch) scarf and some of her hair. Renard interrupts the break-in as Adalind is about to leave, and she knocks him out with a magical vase-toss:
Needless to say, Renard is pretty pissed when he wakes up:
Trubel introduces herself to Grandpa Grimm as Nick's friend and resident Grimm #2. He wants her to protect his trunk so that his non-believing son won't destroy it. Then, he finally agrees to go to the hospital, where his son almost immediately gives up their location to fake law enforcement over the phone.
Nick finally answers his phone and shows up, and Hank decides to watch the Volvo containing the trunk while Nick goes inside to speak with Grandpa Grimm. Josh basically tells Nick (in his oblivious fashion) that he told the Verrat where they are. They have to act fast, so Grandpa Grimm tells Nick about the key, then asks his son to grab his cane. Then he passes out before telling them where the key is, and Nick fills in Trubel on the short version of the key-story.
Hank calls Nick out when the Verrat shows up, warning that Trubel should stay inside. Luckily, she doesn't follow orders, because she out-fights both of them. When the fight is over, Trubel takes the Volvo home to keep the trunk safe.
Grandpa Grimm is dead, leaving his son with just one question for Nick: "What kind of cop are you?" At least he finally believes his dad, and more so once he meets even more believers: Rosalee and Monroe. They search all through the trunk for the key, unable to find it. Finally, they remember that Grandpa Grimm had asked for his cane (duh), and it takes Hank to crack the puzzle, leaving Juliette in a state of shock and awe:
Inking up the two keys and stamping them on paper makes a pretty map. They only need one more to be able to find the object that will destroy the universe. Sounds like fun!

Renard asks Wu for additional help in searching for Adalind, but it's too late. She grabs a witch-hat-bong, and smokes the green stuff she concocted out of Juliette's hair, skin cells, and probably a couple of toads and lizards or other appropriately disgusting and old decrepit creatures and bodily fluids. Then, she turns into Evil Juliette. Yay, a reason for Juliette to exist!
